Afterlives

Afterlives are places that souls are taken to by a reaper after the body or place they inhabit dies. Where they go is often dictated by the beliefs of the entity that was ensouled. Souls are a form of energy that retain memories and feelings from their most recent turn in the world.

Secular Afterlife

A neutral afterlife of memories and feelings of the soul. It is for a soul to reconcile whatever it needs to move on. This afterlife is reachable only to the person going through it. It is not a place with any physical properties on any plane and it is there for the soul to shake itself clear of what it needs to before going back into rotation. Sometimes this takes a long time, sometimes it does not.

Back Into Rotation

This is in reference to when a soul has shuffled off the emotional memories of its most recent life it will go back into rotation for another life.

Religious Afterlives

For followers of specific faiths often they go to an afterlife specific to their belief. Some of these have mechanisms for us all to reflect and reform if need be and return to the universe and go again however some pantheons prefer to essentially hoard souls of believers perhaps not to risk diminishing their own power

Basic Follower Of a Pantheon

A follower or believer of a deity or pantheon is someone who has faith in them. It can be casual or it can be fervent worshippers. The theory is that as souls manifest and power things like emotions, their faith/belief in something gives them power. So the Abrahamic has so many that believe in them thus making them stronger and more powerful because they have that many souls in and out of their afterlives that believe in them and their manifestations.

In the word belief, not oh I see you in front of me so I believe you exist. But belief in that they believe in them and their manifestations, that their afterlife, their mythos is the best for them, and that they have their best interest at heart.

Putting in focused effort on a specific divine entity.

Unique Afterlives

Afterlife rules

Each afterlife has a specific set of rules, most religious afterlives having set guidelines for the faithful to enter. Being particularly good or pious, or even the inverse for places like hell or other punishments.

However, reapers generally cannot go to any afterlife. Going to a secular afterlife, they risk being completely unmade by its process, and religious afterlives are guarded and warded. Those, by invite, you might be able to visit, but it's pretty unlikely.
